The Ravenswood Apartments at 570 North Rossmore Ave, Hollywood, (the continuation of Vine St), shown here in 1936. When Mae West came to Hollywood in 1932 to work at Paramount, she went to live at the Ravenswood because it was conveniently around the corner from the studio. (It was built by Paramount for the purposes of offering geographically convenient housing to its employees.) She liked it there so much that she lived there her entire life moving from nicer apartment until she occupied the penthouse which she decorated, ironically, all in white. She was sitting in her apartment at the Ravenswood when she passed away in 1980. Ava Gardner and Clark Gable also lived there. It is a Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument and therefore protected against demolition.
Here’s some Mae music to enjoy while viewing the link below it with a pic of her living room, bear rug and all.
