Advertisement for Sardi's restaurant, Hollywood Boulevard, circa mid-1930sSardi’s restaurant on 6315 Hollywood Blvd, near Vine Street opened in 1932 by the Montmartre’s Eddie Brandstatter. Until it was destroyed in a fire on November 2nd, 1936, it was one of the chic places to eat in Hollywood. I wonder if these 12 stars were compensated for having their mugs included in the ad. Something tells me they weren’t. And I wonder if Gilbey’s gin and Four Roses bourbon ponied up to be mentioned by name. Still, 75 cents for luncheon and $1.25 for dinner to dine at Sardi’s sounds like a pretty good deal to me.

Another Hollywood “in spot” where I’d like to have been a fly on the wall!

Here’s an interesting shot from 1936 taken while filming Paramount’s “Hollywood Boulevard.” Gary Cooper made a cameo (man at the bar) as a favor to his friend John Halliday, one of the stars of the film.

Dibs on that Woody station wagon.

    • Ah! Is that what they were filming? I’ve seen that photo before but never knew which movie it was. Now that I do, I’m’a gonna keep my peepers peeled for it on TCM!
