Dr. Beauchamp Dentistry, corner Hollywood and Cahuenga, 1935One of the few buildings to have survived the ravages of time is this one at the corner of Hollywood Blvd and Cahuenga Blvd. Fortunately, it’s one of my favorites—these days I doubt many architects would think to add a decorative tower to a building for no other reason than because it looks good. It currently houses a Popeye’s fast food joint, but back in the 30s and 40s, it was an Owl Drug Co. drugstore. Dr. Beauchamp had his offices there in the 30s and by the 40s, Drs. Chase & Green occupied the building. It’s now called the Julian Medical Building, so even that seems to have stayed the same. A rare occurrence in LA.

And in 1943:

Love these series of pics, Martin, of this beautiful old building and am so happy it is still there, tower and all. One of the rare occasions I actually like the “now” pic!

    Thanks for posting these.

Martin, in looking at the 1943 pic again, it looks like a magazine/newspaper stand along the wall under the roll-up awning on the Cahuenga side of the building. There used to be one on the corner of Las Palmas and Hollywood Blvd. Sadly, the last time I was by there, it’s gone now.
