Van De Kamp's Bakery & Coffee Shop with drive-in service, corner of Fletcher Dr and San Fernando Rd, Atwater Village, 1956I missed the whole dinner-at-a-drive-in thing by about 20 years, but if I’d been around, chances are you’d have found me at a place like this. This is Van De Kamp’s Bakery and Coffee Shop, which stood at the corner of Fletcher Drive and San Fernando Road in Atwater Village (about 5 miles north of downtown L.A.) It must have been quite an eyeful when lit up at night. This photo is circa 1956, when America was in full “Happy Days” mode.

  1. Loved Van de Kamp’s. And the windmills were fabulous. Thanks for sharing and love always, Lou.
