Grauman’s Chinese Theatre, Hollywood Blvd, September / October 1961

Grauman's Chinese Theatre, Hollywood Blvd, September / October 1961Aside from maybe some very early photos, I don’t remember seeing Hollywood Boulevard so empty. This photo is circa September/October 1961 so it wasn’t being cleared for the Academy Awards. Was there a zombie apocalypse in 1961 I don’t know about? The two things that strikes me about this photo is (a) how clearly the stars in the Walk of Fame are (they weren’t even a year old), and (b) how bleak the lot to the east of Grauman’s was. Many people don’t like the Hollywood and Highland shopping mall, it’s a whole better than that concrete parking lot.
