In my novel, \u201cThe Garden on Sunset\u201d, there is a scene set at a place called the Zulu Hut which stood at 11100 Ventura Blvd in what is now known as Studio City. It was near Universal Studios in what was then a fairly rural area. When I came across the Zulu Hut in my research, I read\u2014wide-eyed\u2014that black-faced waiters (!) served cornpones (cornmeal bread usually shaped into a flat cake and baked or fried on a griddle), squab and fried chicken in thatched huts, I knew I had a set a scene there. But try as I might, googling my fingers to nubs, I could *not* find a photo of it . . . until now. And it\u2019s every bit as kitsch as I pictured.<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.martinturnbull.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/zulu-hut-new-movie-magazine-1930.png\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-attachment-id=\"5226\"
