The entrance to the Hollywood Bowl, early 1940s

The entrance to the Hollywood BowlThe sculptures at the entrance to the Hollywood Bowl was designed by sculptor George Stanley who also made the original Oscar statuette (based on a design by MGM art director Cedric Gibbons.) I’ve always felt that part of the Hollywood Bowl experience is walking past these timelessly classic sculptures.

I can’t figure out if this is an advertisement for the Hollywood Bowl or a new car with the way that ’40s dame is enticingly flashing those shapely gams. Whichever it is, it’s sure pure ’40s Hollywood. Looks like a storm’s a-brewing adding to this atmospheric shot.

    Thanks, Martin, for posting this.
