The corner of Hollywood and Highland, looking east along Hollywood Boulevard in 1937 when the Hollywood Theater is showing the Spencer Tracy movie “Captains Courageous” (co-written by Garden of Allah resident, Marc Connelly. By the time this photo was taken, the heyday of the Montmartre Café (the first nightspot in Hollywood) had come and gone, but the Boulevard had acquired a JC Penney!
