The Nikabob restaurant at 875 S. Western Ave was named for a guy named Nick and Bob Cobb of the Brown Derby and “Cobb Salad” fame. As far-out-and-funky as this interior decoration is (this photo is dated 1950s, but you’d think it was 1968), the exterior of the building was equally striking, though in a completely different way:
In doing some research on 1920s actress Helen Lynch, we came upon a reference to a 1929 dinner party she and husband Carroll Nye threw at the Nikabob. We wonder if it was the same one (if it was, we have to assume the interior was redone at some point).
This was my great grandfather’s resturant for awhile. He was also the president of the California Resturant Association for several years. Henry Charles Stevens.

It’s the only Nikabob Restaurant I’ve come across, so my guess is that it’s the same place.
This may be my grandparent’s restaurant. I believe it once was a funeral home.

Really?! Amazing! Thanks for stopping by!
