Gables Beach Club, Santa Monica beach, circa late 1920sIn the 1920s and 30s, a number of fancy beach club were built along Santa Monica beach: the aptly named Santa Monica Beach Club, and the French-inspired Deauville Beach Club. There was also the Gables Beach Club, a grand Tudor-style building constructed in 1926. It was also a popular filming location. After a fire partially destroyed it in 1930, the club was rebuilt and reopened as the Sorrento Beach Club in 1932. This photo was taken circa late 1920s.

    What happened to the Sorrento Beach Club? It’s a parking lot now.
