The Ben-Hur Delicious Drip Coffee shop featured a giant coffee pot on the roof, and was located at 1950 W. Washington Blvd. (1930) This style of architecture is called “memetic” which denotes a building constructed in an unusual shape as a novelty. Probably the most famous example of that was the Brown Derby restaurant. It would be hard not to guess what the Ben-Hur Coffee shop sold…but did it have wi-fi…?
Below is the Wilshire Coffee Pot restaurant, 8601 Wilshire Boulevard, at Stanley Drive, circa 1925:
I’ll bet this was pretty at night with the little light on the percolator.
Here’s a closer shot of the Wilshire location with its pot facing in the opposite direction from its companion shop.
