Capital Records building under construction, 1954

Capital Records building under construction, 1954The Capitol Records building on Vine St, just north of Hollywood Boulevard was the world’s first circular office tower. Here it is being built in 1954. And check out the Rent A Car sign near the bottom left. Makes me wonder what the “Grant U Drive System” was.

The Grant-U-Drive was my grandfather’s (Bil Grant) car rental and parking lot business. He had many lots throughout LA and offered parking, as well as rental car and delivery business. My Dad inherited that lot next to the Capitol Records building but sold it in the mid-70s.
