Hollywood’s first Studio Club for Actresses (a women-only boarding house for aspiring movie stars) was established 1916 (this photo was taken in 1917) by Mary Pickford and Mrs. Cecil B deMille at 6129 Carlos Ave, then in 1926 moved to 1215 Lodi Place. Needless to say, it was a strictly NO MEN ALLOWED zone (but you’ve got to wonder how many were sneaked in…)
