Metro Studios, run by Louis B. Mayer (later the first part of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer) built up-to-date studios at the corner of Cahuenga Boulevard and Romaine Street, in 1919. What we can see in this photo are the backs of the movie sets. Note how the sign on the fence says, “Controlled by Loew Inc.”…just in there was any doubt about who ruled the roost.
