When radio station KFWB (which is still around, by the way) installed an electric news sign on the Taft Building on Hollywood and Vine, it turned the intersection into a sort of Times Square-esque 24-hour news hub for Los Angeles.
The font used on that zipper (or “flashcast”) was exactly as seen on many a Times Square zipper in NYC for such varied products and all else as Ruppert beer, Miss Youth Form, the RKO Palace Theatre, Bond Clothing Stores, Admiral Television Appliances, Budweiser, Kleenex, TWA, et al. I wonder if Douglas Leigh and/or Artkraft Strauss had a role in the making, fabrication and installation of this “flashcast.” Both lit up Times Square ‘spectaculars’ for decades.
