I love this photo of Alla Nazimova because you usually see her striking some sort of (fabulously dramatic) pose. But this shot almost gives you a glimpse into her private life. She could be just lazing away a Sunday afternoon, or maybe thinking about last night’s lover who’s just departed into the early morning light. Whatever she’s doing, it seems real and unstudied. (Alla Nazimova turned her movie star mansion on Sunset Blvd in the Garden of Allah hotel in 1927.)
