Schaber’s Cafeteria at 620 S Broadway in downtown L.A. It opened in 1928 and lasted until 1947. What impresses me about this photo is that we think of cafeterias as bare-minimum, almost fast-fod type places to get in, eat, and get out. But check out the highly intricate and elaborate stone and ironwork on the front façade. Fortunately, most of it is still there. The next time you amble down Broadway and find yourself at the Los Angeles Theater, look across the street.
