The J. J. Newberry 5 – 10 – 25 cent store, next to Kress’, on Hollywood Boulevard in 1928. Not a bad façade for a five-and-dime, eh? And sure as hell beats the 99 Cent Store!
I have an original perfect condition from Albert E. Cawood, Is this photo worth anything, the picture was taken in Los Angeloswith a stamp from Mr Cawood on the back
I always loved the display windows on these old buildings. I don’t know why stores started getting rid of them. I also use to love the smell when you walked into a woolworth or ben franklin stores. I am sure that this newberry store had that same smell. This brings back so many fond memories Martin.
Thank you for all you do for us.
I found a Menu from ” J.J. Newberry’s “Hollywood” Fountain and Luncheonette, address was 6602 Hollywood Blvd., Hollywood, Cal.
Menu is dated Monday, June 14, 1937.
Signatures on the back are Clem Johnston, Regina Lovell, Florence Johnston, Hugh R. Johnston.
Is this a collectable item?
