The Venice Pier at night in 1905. The structure on the left is the Ship Café, a large, classy joint in the form of a Spanish galleon which opened that year. It was owned by a guy called Baron Long who later ran the Biltmore Bowl at the Biltmore Hotel. During Prohibition it offered bootleg booze. The sight of the Ship Café and the neighboring building must have been quite a sight all lit up at night like that.
