Originally built by Billy Wilkerson, the owner of the Hollywood Reporter, Ciro’s was the most glamorous nightclub on the Sunset Strip and featured a Pompeii Room whose signature cocktail was called Vesuvius. A guy by the name of George Dolenz was a maitre d’ at Ciro’s when he caught the eye of Howard Hughes who made him a movie star in the swashbuckling type roles. See? That sort of thing CAN happen!
