A glowing night shot of the Earl Carroll Theater on Sunset Boulevard.I love this night shot of the Earl Carroll Theater! It stood on Sunset Blvd, just east of Vine, and opened on Christmas day, 1938 and featured with a cast of 60 girls as well as dazzling lighting made from 6200 feet of blue and gold neon tubing, and 30-foot columns of light flanking the stage. Scroll down to see some equally wonderful interior shots.

If my memory isn’t failing me, I saw the play Zoot Suit here when it was called The Aquarius in the late 70’s. I’m sure the interior was vastly changed from this beautiful 1930’s interior though. I was in high school at the time and don’t remember anything more than the exterior of the building.
