Billy Wilkerson's La Rue and the Trocadero on the Sunset Strip, circa 1940sBilly Wilkerson of the Hollywood Reporter was instrumental in lifting the bar for nightclubs and restaurants on the Sunset Strip. Here we can see two of his places. On the left is La Rue, which opened in April of 1944 and served upscale French food, and on the right, the Trocadero, a very popular nightclub which Wilkerson opened September of 1934 and sold in May of 1938. Under other owners, the Trocadero continued through the whole of the 1940s.
