WWII-era solider on the corner of Hollywood and Vine

WWII-era solider on the corner of Hollywood and VineAn iconic photograph of old Hollywood if ever there was one. The corner of Hollywood and Vine, with a semaphore stop sign, and a WII soldier. I wonder if he was in search of the Hollywood Canteen. All he needed to do was about-face and walk south on Vine and then over to Cahenga. He won’t be able to miss it – the line out front was usually a block long. (from Davelandweb)

Just discovered this wonderful picture today. Just wanted to let you know that those Porcelain Hollywood and Vine signs in this picture have survived. They are safe here in Australia hanging from the ceiling of my shed. They were taken down and replaced at some point between 1942 to 1944.
The later version had a smaller font BLVD.( see VJ day pic)
