This photo shows the entrance Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel on Hollywood Boulevard. To the left of it was the Cinegrill, a cabaret venue where many entertainers played. The hotel was financed by investors which included Douglas Fairbanks, Mary Pickford and Louis B. Mayer so it’s probably not a great surprise that it hosted the first-ever Academy Awards dinner on May 16, 1929, two years after it opened. Judging by the cars in this photo, I’d imagine that this photo was taken some time during those early years.
Oh, I just love this photo. If you click on it, it takes you to a huge blow-up so you can easily enjoy everything in great detail.
Love those cars and everything about this picture.
Thank you, Martin.
