Night shot of the Alex Theater in Glendale, California

Night shot of the Alex Theater in Glendale, CaliforniaDon’t you just love a theater that isn’t afraid to tell the world “I’M HERE!”…? I don’t know how tall that shaft is but you can bet that nobody in Glendale got lost getting to the Alex Theater.

Just beautiful! I’ve always liked Glendale. Except when I had to go to the dentist there back when I lived in Hollywood 🙁

Here’s what you’d see if you walked inside:

Behind the false frontage is a courtyard leading to the theater building, much like the Chinese on Hollywood. This would have alleviated some of the usual problem of crowding on the sidewalks for popular runs…at least until the days of the blockbusters came along. While I saw Star Wars at Grauman’s on opening night, the Alex is where I wound up for Empire Strikes Back. The kids in there went nutzo. Not sure the cinema world has been the same since.
