The bad old days before Los Angeles decided it needed to address its ever-increasing air pollution woes. The man of the right strolls down the street wearing a gas mask, while women on the left use their handkerchiefs to wipe away their tears. Circa 1958.
Wonderful picture! We’re looking north on Broadway towards 7th St. here, correct? I believe the man with the gas mask is walking by the Marinello School of Beauty, with the Pig N Whistle just a couple of doors up from there. And that’s the State Theater on the left on the corner of Broadway & 7th.
Thanks again for sharing all these wonderful photos.
