This is a wonderful view of the Trocadero restaurant on Sunset Boulevard in 1936. Opened by Hollywood Reporter owner/editor, Billy Wilkerson, it was THE hotspot of its time. It was also where David O. Selznick held the post-premiere party for “Gone with the Wind.” If I’d lived back then, I’d have been the city slicker driving that car in the driveway. I don’t know enough about cars to identify it but I want it so bad.
In that car you would have been stylish indeed and someone who was up and coming most likely.
The car is a 1934-35 LaSalle rumble seat convertible. You can see the step for the rumble seat passenger on top of the right rear fender. LaSalle was the “baby Cadillac” and was positioned between Buick and Cadillac in price and status. It had a straight 8 engine in it. FYI: This car was Art Deco all the way with chevrons on the front fenders, airplane style bumpers and it could be had with fender skirts on the rear which made it even better looking: https://www.flickr.com/photos/dmentd1/sets/72157627718450123/

Love that time period, that car and you’d have to fight me for it, Martin hahaha!
Almost looks like a film scene. Wonder what those two guys are discussing? A big movie deal? Or were they even connected with movie making?
So much period detail. If that entrance could speak telling of all the greats who went in and out in the Golden Era of Hollywood.
You came up with a real good one here, Martin (but then, you always do!)
