Bogie and Bacall’s first home at 2707 Benedict Canyon Road in Beverly Hills

Bogie and Bacall's first home at 2707 Benedict Canyon Road in Beverly HillsThis is the home that Bogie and Bacall moved into after they got married in 1945. It was at 2707 Benedict Canyon Road in Beverly Hills is where the original Rat Pack started. Considering they were the Hollywood “it” couple, this house seems remarkably restrained. (Or maybe I’m unfairly judging it by today’s standards.)

The Bogarts loved dogs, boxers in particular. Wonder if this is Harvey, their first, ambling down the walkway to greet the photographer? I like the simple, clean lines to this white house.

Here’s some pics of the Bogart dogs:

I grew up and lived at 1944 Benedict Canyon Dr. in the 1950’s, and saw Bogie driving up and down the canyon in his Jaguar XK120 many times, even got a ride once when hitchhiking…loved the car and finally in 1956 when getting out of the Navy was able to buy one for myself….Great memories!!!

This lovely home, lavishly expanded to enlarge the living room, atop a lower floor entertainment, has been owned by Ann-Margret and her late husband Roger Smith, since their marriage in 1967. Previously, it was the home of Hedy Lamarr, who purchased the home from Lauren Bacall and Humphrey Bogart.
The Smiths added a private gym, a two-bedroom home for their live-in cook and chauffeur, a 20-seat screening room, and two guest houses.

    • Hi Richard, thanks for stopping by and adding this interesting info!

I was married at this home in 1988. Ann-Margret and Roger Smith were my in-laws. I’ve been trying to find some archival photos of this home, but only seem to find mostly just this one photo. I remember that I saw several photos of the interior many years ago and they were from the Bogie/Bacall days. I thought it might have been in Architectural Digest but I’m coming up with nothing now. I have such fond memories of not only my wedding but many celebrations and holidays spent there. At least I still have my wedding photos. 🙂

      • Hi Leslie, and thanks for stopping by. Lucky you to married there! In my experience, interior photos are a lot harder to come by, and most of those are from Architectural Digest. Maybe someone reading this will have some photos they can share!

        Hi Leslie,

It would be lovely if you could post your photos so that we could get a glimpse of what the home looked like in that period.
I’ve come across the Bogart pics that you referenced-many outdoor and indoor shots. I’ll look for them again and post a link here once I find them.
        Thanks!

I’m watching an old dick Cavett show and then Margaret is talking about this house. Gena Rowlands lived there for a minute also.

  5. Leslie says:

I got married here! Years later in 1988. Ann-Margret was my mother in law.

    • Mary Stone says:

Leslie, if you truly are her daughter in law by marriage (Ann-Margret only had step children from Roger Smith, please tell her that her April 2023 AARP interview stated she’s seeing Gary Sandy from the tv sitcom WKRP in Cincinnati (he also toured with her in Best Little Whorehouse in Texas.) HER acknowledgment of that relationship has exposed Gary has a liar. Ann-Margret should be informed! I just found this out today! I was his girlfriend for the last 9 yrs and he claimed they were just long time friends. I’m devastated! I had broke up with him April 11 & 12 over another exposed lie about a gal in Florida. I don’t want Ann-Margret to get hurt like I recently was, including the interview I saw today! Roger, Ann-Margret, and Gary have been long time friends. Roger asked him to look out after her when he passes, which he did in 2017. Thank you.

Leslie, It would be lovely if you could post you pics here so that we could get a glimpse of this fabulous home in that period. I know the Bogart pics that you referenced-many outdoor and indoor. I will look for them and post once I locate.
    Thanks!

    • Leslie says:

Sorry for my delayed reply. I cannot show the photos from my wedding. I am still very close with my ex who is an extremely private person and I am still friends with Ann-Margret who is also extremely private. I am certain that neither of them would want the photos shown. I hope to find those vintage photos of the home one day. I will share the source if I find them.

I am just a long time fan of Ann-Margret. She has filmed many interviews inside the house over the years and I have seen many pictures of the public areas of the house in magazines. In fact there are some in her autobiography. Her step-son Jordan died not too long after Roger. So if you are still friends with your ex I guess that must mean you were married to Dallas, although I was unaware of him ever being married. Just last year CBS Sunday Morning filmed their interview inside the house.
