Map of Beverly Hills courtesy of the Beverly Hills USO Canteen during WWII

Map of Beverly Hills courtesy of the Beverly Hills USO Canteen during WWIIIn a biography of Barbara Stanwyck, I recently came across a passing mention of the fact that, during WWII, there was a USO Canteen situated in the converted game and sun rooms at the Beverly Hills Hotel. Apparently, the hotel became a meeting place for all kinds of organizations, like the Los Angeles Junior League, the New York Players Club, Rotary, and the Kiwanis. So I did a bit of digging and found this map, which, remarkably, gives the addresses of over 100 prominent film industry people. I guess they figured that when Sammy the Sailor was in L.A. on a 3-day shore leave, the thing he’d most want to do would be to walk the streets of L.A. stalking movie stars.
