MGM’s Irving Thalberg and Norma Shearer had a beach house on Santa Monica beach. As with his neighbors Louis B. Mayer and William Randolph Hearst, it sat right on the edge of the sand. But unlike his neighbors, Thalberg was an extremely light sleeper, so Norma had the entire house soundproofed so he couldn’t hear the ocean. Not a bad shack for a beach house, huh?
In 1942, the house was used for the wedding of Wayne and Sandy Poulsen. Wayne’s old friend and ski buddy, Marti had just married Norma shortly before. Wayne’s life story, now recognized as the founder of the Squaw Valley area, can be found here: http://thetahoeweekly.com/2015/08/the-poulsens-a-squaw-valley-love-affair/
