Wilshire Boulevard heading west out of downtown Los Angeles, circa 1930sA Sunday drive in the 1930s heading out of downtown west along Wilshire Boulevard, would take you through Westlake Park (it wouldn’t be known as MacAuthur Park until after the war), and Lafayette Park past the Townhouse Hotel (on the right, home to the popular Zebra Room) and the Bullocks Wilshire department store (on the left) and a smattering of the homes still standing along the boulevard before commercial pressures eventually did away with them one by one.
