It’s not just movies that got the searchlight treatment. This is the Holly Food Mart at 5959 Hollywood Boulevard. I don’t have much information about it, other than it was around in the 1930s and maybe even earlier. Later, the building became home to Petersen Publishing (Motor Trend, Hot Rod etc.) in the 1950s – the same Petersen who built the Petersen Automotive Museum on Wilshire Boulevard. A marquee was added when it became the X Theater.
