This is the Los Angeles dealership for Mercedes Benz at some time in the 1920s. As lovely a building as it was, it’s a long way from the BIG windows of the car show rooms of today. Given that Mercedes Benz didn’t start until 1926, and given how many different makes of car there were back then, I’m wondering if their brand name even carried the weight it does now.
The Daimler and Benz merger in 1926 was forced (as I understand it) by the German government because both companies were in financial trouble following WW I. The Mercedes name was given to Daimler models starting in 1901, the name coming from the daughter of an Austrian Daimler dealer. When the two companies merged, the cars were called Mercedes-Benz, but the parent company is Daimler-Benz.
I think the brand was known among the well to do types. I doubt you’d find a dealership in Moline or Paducah. But I could see the Hollywood set going for them.
