Mammy’s Shack restaurant, Culver City, 1937

Mammy's Shack restaurant, 5687 West Washington Blvd. Culver CIty 1937I think this shows how far we’ve come. Mammy’s Shack was a popular Culver City restaurant (pictured here in 1937) famous for its squab dinners. I doubt that anybody could get away with calling a restaurant by that name nowadays. Nor have I ever seen “squab” on the menu of any place I’ve eaten at in Los Angeles in the 18 years I’ve lived here.
