Hollywood before the Hollywood Freeway was built, 1951

Hollywood before the Hollywood Freeway was built, 1951It’s hard to picture Hollywood without the Hollywood Freeway cutting through it. This shot shows the pre-freeway view (1951) looking north up Ivar Ave from the corner of Yucca St. The building with the red roof at the top of the hill on the left hand side of Ivar is the Alto Nido Apartments, which is where William Holden’s character lived in “Sunset Boulevard.”
