Confession time: I am a bit of a map fan (and by “bit of a” I mean “a lot of a”) especially if it’s an old one of L.A. and extra points if it’s an old Hollywood map. This one is from 1937 and you can get a feel for what were the important places of interest (and stars) back then. A surprising number of places are still around, but there was one that caught my eye, which I’d never heard of: Victor McLaglen Field. It stood at the corner of Los Feliz Blvd and Riverside Dr. McLaglen was a British actor whose career went from the 1920s to the 1950s, and the field hosted equestrian events like polo and rodeos.
Skiers up by Lake Arrowhead, although a bit further out than Pasadena (No mention of Big Bear Area). Lots of lost playgrounds in those mountains, and all the stars now running off to Idaho for winter sports in that year.
