Wil Wright’s Ice Cream Parlor at night, Sunset Blvd, 1950

Wil Wright's Ice Cream parlorWil Wright’s was a chain of ice cream parlors that dotted the Southern California landscape from the 1940s to the 1970s. I don’t have a complete list of their locations, but I’ve gathered there was one in Hollywood and on the Sunset Strip, as well as Beverly Hills (corner of Beverly Dr and Charleville Blvd, Westwood Village (Glendon and Lindbrook), and Sherman Oaks (Ventura and Van Nuys.) This one was on Sunset Blvd. at Sunset Plaza Drive.

Here is a Wil Wright’s Ice Cream menu from 1953:

Another Will Wright’s was in Pasadena on Colorado Blvd in the Arcade a half block east of El Molino. I went there my first day in California. It was July, hot, and magical to a sheltered Southern girl.
