Langer’s Delicatessen opened in 1947 at 704 S. Alvarado at the corner of 7th Street overlooking MacArthur Park near downtown L.A. Miraculously, it is still there today. What struck me about this photo is the way they spelled the word deli as “Delly.” I’d never seen that before. Apparently, when Al Langer purchased the deli in 1947, it was called “The Famous Delly” but he could not afford to replace the entire sign, so he just replaced the “Famous” with “Langer’s” and had to leave the “Delly” there.
