Before the Hollywood Reporter’s Billy Wilkerson opened “The Trocadero,” Los Angeles had another Troc, the “Trocadero Café.” It was at 6600 Hollywood Boulevard and probably opened some time in the late 1910s. (This ad is from 1919.) From the looks of this ad, they took themselves pretty seriously: a study in pink, gold, and gray…art collection…an atmosphere of refinement…and the best $1 dinner in the whole state of California. But what caught my eyes was this line: “Tray service to private residences.” SAY WHAT??? A restaurant would bring your dinner to you on a tray???
Thanks to Philip Mershon’s Felix In Hollywood Tours for bringing this gem to my attention.
