I didn’t know that the Lawry’s restaurants went back as far as the 1930s until I found this photo of Lawry’s The Prime Rib at 100 N. La Cienega Boulevard, Beverly Hills. This photo was dated 1938—the year it opened—and although the building looks different now, they are still there. That stretch of La Cienega is known as Restaurant Row, so now I’m wondering if Lawry’s started it.
At some point later on they moved across the street and down to the building that is now The Stinking Rose. Do you know when they moved back to 100 N. La Cienega?

Wow, I didn’t know they were in the Stinking Rose. I thought they’d always been at that original location.
I found a Lawry’s newsletter online that indicates they moved to 55 N. La Cienega in 1947 and back to the original address (but bigger building) in 1993.

I also found a story that they originated the serving of salad at the beginning of the meal instead of after the main course because in California we have fresh produce all year long, unlike much of the rest of the country. And apparently the cost of a new serving cart is $30k !!

They invented the salad-is-its-own-course thing? Amazing!
