Stores on Weyburn Ave., Westwood, 1938

Stores on Weyburn Ave., Westwood, 1938This photo is from 1938 and shows what looks like a homeware store next to a bookstore on Weyburn Ave. in Westwood. Why can’t they make shops like this anymore? For that matter, why can’t they make streetlights like that anymore? It almost looks like a movie set, doesn’t it?

Well, Martin, the bookstore’s door is still open, inviting customers to mosey on inside! Can you imagine a small store even open at nighttime in a quiet setting like this nowadays?! Bars on windows and shut tightly once the sun goes down.

Love that streetlight too and agree this could pass for a movie set. Wish I was there in 1938 to walk through those book shop doors. I know you feel the same!
