Ah, they don’t make theater facades like this anymore, do they? This is the El Miro theater which stood at 1441 Third Street (now the Third Street Promenade) in Santa Monica. I love those clean deco lines and the light at the top of the antenna. Everything I have says that the El Miro opened in 1938, however both the movies playing in this photo — “Man of Two Worlds” and “Bolero” with George Raft and Carole Lombard — opened in 1934. Maybe it a second-run house? At any rate, the façade is still around, even though the guts of the theater was razed to make way for a multi-plex.
