El Miro theater, 1441 Third St., Santa Monica, circa 1930sAh, they don’t make theater facades like this anymore, do they? This is the El Miro theater which stood at 1441 Third Street (now the Third Street Promenade) in Santa Monica. I love those clean deco lines and the light at the top of the antenna. Everything I have says that the El Miro opened in 1938, however both the movies playing in this photo — “Man of Two Worlds” and “Bolero” with George Raft and Carole Lombard — opened in 1934. Maybe it a second-run house? At any rate, the façade is still around, even though the guts of the theater was razed to make way for a multi-plex.
