Some sort of filming (1936) is going outside the CoCo Tree Café, which stood on the northwest corner of Hollywood and Vine from 1932 to 1940. It was located in the Laemmle Building — Carl Laemmle planned a 900-seat theatre and office tower on that corner, but was thwarted by the depression. Below is an interior shot of the Coco Tree.

In 1940, the Coco Tree Café closed, kicking of a succession of places:

  • 1932 to 1940 – CoCo Tree Café

  • 1940 to 1955 – Melody Lane

  • 1955 to 1969 – Hody’s

  • 1970 to 1985 – Howard Johnson’s

  • 1987 to c.1988 – The Brown Derby

  • 1990 to c.1992 – Premieres of Hollywood
