Let’s file this one under “Lost Opportunities.” In December 1938, “Pacific Electric Magazine” published this picture of a proposed building called the Hollywood Sports Garden to be built at the corner of Fairfax Ave and Third Street. That’s the corner the Farmer’s Market and The Grove now stands on, but prior to that, the Gilmore baseball stadium stood there. It opened at the corner of Fairfax Ave and Beverly Blvd in May 1934 next to the Pan Pacific Auditorium, so I’m guessing developers were looking to make this stretch of Fairfax and sports and entertainment precinct. What a shame plans for this gorgeous art deco palace didn’t go through, huh?
Betsy Burroughs has a 20-page sales brochure with original blowout reply card – 11″ x14″, – string bound. She is interested in selling it. Below are some photos. Feel free to email her directly – Betsy Burroughs
I recently came upon this same brochure in mint condition.
What ended up happening with this one? Any guidance would be greatly appreciated!
Like many ambitious plans, it came to nothing.
