I was driving home last night from Los Feliz. It was a clear, crisp night and the Griffith Observatory was shining like the beacon it is atop Mount Hollywood, and I got to thinking how much poorer the Los Angeles vista would be without it. Then I got come and coincidentally (or is it synchronistically?) found this shot of it, circa late 1930s, when the sight of it would still have been new for the locals.
