Los Angeles City Hall is one of the most iconic buildings in L.A., perhaps even in the country, party because for decades, it was the tallest building in L.A., partly because it played the role of “the Daily Planet building” in the Superman TV show, and partly because it’s a striking piece of architecture. But before the current Los Angeles City Hall, there was a pervious one, equally striking in its Romanesque Revival way, shown here in around 1890. It stood on Broadway between 2nd and 3rd Streets until the new one opened in 1928.
Martin,
Here, you have this identified as L.A.’s first City Hall. Over here, https://martinturnbull.com/2020/11/07/los-angeless-second-city-hall-226-broadway-between-2nd-and-3rd-streets-downtown-los-angeles-1889-2/ the same building is labeled L.A.’s 2nd City Hall. Is this a mistake? Or was there another building used as City Hall before this was built in 1888? I’ve been looking for images, but haven’t come up with anything. Can you clear this up? Thanks!
