This shot is of Wilshire Blvd facing east toward downtown L.A. On the left side we can see the Wilshire Christian Church, then the original Brown Derby, and past that, the Gaylord Apartments. Miraculously, two out of those three buildings are still around. Sadly, the one I’d like most to see – the Brown Derby – is not. This photo was taken February 10th, 1928, which means the happy drivers here still have a good 18 months of bath-tub-ginning and flapping and Charlestoning before that whole jazz party came to an end.
