This exterior view of Central Library in downtown L.A. was taken in 1949. I’ve never seen it look like this – by the time I moved to L.A., the 5-story extension that reaches through to Grand Street had long taken over the lawn in the foreground. I love that you can still see the Richfield Tower in all its glory reaching skyward in the background.
