Grauman’s Chinese Theater on “Breakfast Matinee” day, February 26, 1941

Grauman's Chinese Theater on "Breakfast Matinee" day, February 26, 1941Kurt from at graumanschinese.org provided this shot of Grauman’s. It’s unusual in that it was taken on , the one day that the theater offered a “Breakfast Matinee.” The doors opened at 7:00 AM and served a menu of pancakes and eggs for early-rising filmgoers. I wonder how many people showed up to wolf down their breakfast while watching “Andy Hardy’s Private Secretary” and “Dr. Kildare’s Crisis.”

So, I was mad for Dr. Kildare, and wanted so much to be his nurse. At the same time, “The Ben Casey Show” about Dr. Ben Casey was popular, and thus, they made a child’s nurse costume depicting the show. I asked, I received, and pretended it said, “Dr. Kildare’s Nurse” instead. You’re off by some 20 years on the timing of “wolfing down their breakfast..” and jettisoning their tv shows. But, that’s okay, you made me laugh, and fondly reminisce about my first real job.
