This is the Tower Theater which – shockingly – still stands at 8th and Broadway in downtown. It was the first movie theater in Los Angeles to be built specifically for talkies — just after opening in October 1927, it held the west coast premiere of “The Jazz Singer” (the Warner’s Hollywood Theater wasn’t ready to open.) When this shot was taken, the Tower was showing a Victor McLaglen and Delores Del Rio starrer called “What Price Glory?” which was the first movie that used ‘special effects’ as a credit.

Yes, I was a kid 5 yrs old, back then ,when I first started attending theatre movies in 1965 with my Dad. At the Tower theater, they were exclusive to show James Bond movies. Those early Sean Connery spy 007 thriller,-action movies. Beautiful memories with my Dad and I. We would eat prior at Clifton ‘s Cafeteria. Very profond- lasting impressions of Los Angeles downtown experience as a kid. The Tower theater was amazing to see the inside of the theater back then at 5 yrs old. Beautiful high tech architecture, especially the inside with the red carpet, and the good, candies, and delicious buttered popcorn.
